Why should gardeners befriend fungi? Let’s listen to our plants.  Given the opportunity, 80% of the trees, bushes, flowers and vegetables will greedily enter into a partnership with certain species of fungi. This presentation will demonstrate how working with these fungi can benefit the health of our plants, our soil, and our planet. We will look at some fascinating science and learn how to spot and stimulate the beneficial fungi. The next time you see a mushroom among your flowers, you will see an opportunity for a resilient, abundant and beautiful garden ecosystem.

Kaat Vander Straeten is a gardener, beekeeper and student of fungi in Wayland, MA. She is the founder of Transition Wayland, an organization that builds resilience in the face of climate change. Kaat also works with the Wayland Schools Green Team.
